Poppa Bob

Robert H. Anderson
Born August 9, 1911
Died September 28, 2010

It was a sad fall for us with the loss of two very special "Bobs" first, our neighbor Bob passed away and then my Grandpa Bob died. Poppa Bob was not quite so unexpected as he was 99 years old. He was making plans for his 100th Birthday next year but I believe he was ready to go. He missed Grandma Beth and his friends and family and was ready to see them. We were able to see him this summer when we went in July and I even took him to the casino for a little blackjack time. I am so glad we made that trip.

I traveled to the funeral by myself which in itself was a little vacation and I was able to visit with my immediate and extended family. Some of the things the children and grandchildren remembered about him are the following:
He was so proud of the Mitchell Monument the he helped to build which honored the only people to be killed by the Japanese during World War II on the continental US.
He also helped build many other facilities and monuments as a stone mason and was honored as an "Artist in Stone".
Squeakers his cat that "mysteriously" appeared on his porch one day.
The Baby Huey cookie jar.
His breakfast rolls which were really Little Debbie Boston Creme Cakes.
Trips to Hawaii, Reno, the Oregon Coast, Portland.
Teaching a grandson how to throw and catch a baseball.
Going fishing.
Cleaning a pool he never got in just because he loved Grandma Beth.
When Grandma Beth got mad and blew up he'd say "Sorry I blew up, Beth"
His stories from serving in the Navy during World War II.
He was one of the Portland Trailblazers biggest fans. Listening to them on the radio and having the TV on at the same time after he lost his sight.

With the passing of our friends and family, I am so grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ that helps me to know that they are in a wonderful place and that we will see them again. I am grateful that I can tell my girls that. It doesn't mean we don't miss them though!

I love you Poppa Bob! And the Mitchell Monument really is beautiful!
